Brand Introduction

Full Brand NameAugusta LünserOrigin: Augsburg, Bavaria, West Germany

Augusta: Derived from the ancient Latin name of the city Augsburg; used as a brand name.

Lünser: The family name behind the founding of the hardware workshop; all factory engravings are uniformly spelled this way.

After World War II, Augsburg was assigned toUS ZoneThe Lünser family restarted its hardware production line, leveraging pre-war brass stamping and spring manufacturing expertise to produce simple trench-style kerosene lighters for local workers and U.S. forces stationed in Germany.

Milestones

Core Patent Implementation (1950)

The factory applied for a DBP German Federal Patent (Deutsch Bundespatent) for the semi-automatic lift ignition mechanism, giving birth to the brand's flagship product line: Augusta Automatic (head-bobbing automatic machine). It is also the most widely circulated and sought-after model among collectors.

1950–1951 Early Series: Mintmark includes both Augusta Lünser and the DBP patent mark.

1952–1955 Simplified Batch (Local Production Run): Removed "DBP" and "US-ZONE" markings; only the Augusta Lünser engraving remains. Mold standardization, thickened chrome plating, and diamond-pattern anti-slip turning are now standard across the entire line.

1956–1964 Standard Post-Production: Slightly thinner institutional materials, featuring derivative ad customization, leather wrapping, and large desktop branch models.

1965–1966 impacted by market conditions

Only accepted limited custom orders for corporate advertising and commemorative models. No further mold updates were made; shell and connecting rod steel thickness was reduced, and plating processes were simplified. By 1967, the factory completely discontinued its lighter business to resume manufacturing small hardware items.
